Title                : IT Associate Analyst
Location
       : Mobile, AL
Duration
       : 3 months with contract to hire option

I. POSITION PURPOSE:

The Associate Analyst collaborates closely with the SSAB client community and may provide project management support for small-scale projects under the direction of the IT Director or the IT Project Manager for the functional area. In addition, the Associate Analyst also performs custom software development, deployment of packaged software solutions, and ongoing support of computer programs, program documentation, systems operating instructions, and applications user guide(s) in accordance with pre-established company standards and methodologies.

II. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:

A: Systems Analysis and Design

1) Interact with client community and application systems owners to understand business problems and obtain and clarify systems requirements.
2) Conduct periodic meetings with users as needed to understand requirements and develop requirements document.
3) Design and develop detailed programming specifications for business or manufacturing applications in accordance with user requests or interaction with application systems owners.
4) Collaborate with project team members, project leader and/or supervisor to determine the best method for implementing requested changes to existing computing systems by analyzing the requested functions in terms of their effects on current programs.
5) Adhere to SSAB’s system development lifecycle methodology and IT control procedures to support ongoing IT efforts to maintain required level of federal audit compliance.
6) When directed, utilize the IT Project Tracking System to manage priorities and report status of assigned projects.

B: Application Software Development, and Deployment
1) Develop and implement custom software applications utilizing a variety of industry-standard development tools and database technologies: (Microsoft.NET development framework, Visual Basic, Visual C++, Sybase, Oracle, SQL-server Database, C, PowerBuilder, and Crystal Reports).
2) Configure, and deploy packaged software solutions to support business operations
3) Promote the development of teammates by offering assistance in coding techniques and testing methods as appropriate and by participating in training programs.
4) Promote the uniformity of the programming effort by contributing to and adhering to the IT Department’s Standards and Guidelines.
5) Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the IT organization by performing all other duties as assigned by the IT Director or the assigned Project Leader.
6) Collaborate with teammates to establish and maintain standards and methodologies for application development and deployment.
7) Maintain and improve technical and professional competency through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses authorized by the IT Director.

C: Application Software Ongoing Support, Monitoring, and Troubleshooting
1) Effectively resolve programming problems by conducting a thorough analysis of the problems and employing appropriate debugging techniques and aids to resolve the problems.
2) Monitor industry trends and inform IT management and IT teammates of important developments and emerging technologies relative to application development tools/methodologies and database technologies.
3) Ensure the proper execution of computer programs and processes by checking daily log files and reports.
4) Assure the availability of computer resources by managing recovery from data loss caused by events such as power outages, hardware failures, etc. Monitor the successful completion of daily database dumps and system tape back-ups.
5) Expedite user requests for computer support by utilizing the help support desk.
6) Contribute to the overall success of application systems by participating in the development of queries and reports, and by providing support to users of the system.
7) Provide ongoing support for existing on-line, batch, client-server, and web-based applications.

D: Project Management
1) Design and develop project plans through collaboration with systems owners and client community.
2) Monitor project activity to ensure compliance to project schedule.

IV. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required

• Four-year degree from a college or university or two-year certificate from a technical institute in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or business administration. Emphasis in computer-related courses is preferred.
• Must possess course knowledge of Graphical User Interface (GUI) front-end application development tools and concepts of Relational Databases (RDBMS).
• Candidates must possess above-average analytical and problem solving.
• Experience with the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel and Access, is required.

Desirable

The Ideal candidates will posses experience in some, if not all, of the following areas:
• Course experience with .NET development tools and methodologies.
• Course experience with “C” or Visual C++ programming language and Microsoft Visual Basic development toolset.
• Project Management methodologies and software tools (Microsoft Project).
• Above-average analytical and problem solving skills
